Salma Hayek is *beautiful* and THAT is an understatement. Like hariputtar, ahem, not exactly like him, I love… oops, this is all sounding wrong!
Lets’ start at the very beginning….
Salma Hayek is one helluva gorgeous woman. What is painful is the fact that it (her beauty, I mean) looks so realistic. I mean, she looks so believably lovely. Know what I mean? Dash it, she looks so Indian… Which is what makes the entire thing so damn exasperating. I am in a state of envy…
Don’t feel that way about Aishwarya Rai; she’s too ethereal and classic to be believed. Sushmita Sen is *the woman*; ultra-confident, sexy, smart. Can’t identify with that either.
(This is sounding even more *juvenile* than my last posting!)
Btw, Matthew Perry resembles Aamir Khan. So does Jude Law .
Rahul Khanna, Nicholas Cage and David Schwimmer resemble each other because they have identical, full lips and strong jawbones. Hrithik Roshan and Sarah Jessica Parker share the same Captain Sprockett chin.
Strange how the individual features swim out of nowhere and keep jogging your memory and distracting you…Happens to me all the time.
hariputtar says:
Matthew Perry and Ms Hayak in Fools Rush In … tee hee … that was fun. π
Sarah Jessica Parker: Whoever that is …

Salma Hayek’s example was meant to illustrate the *dusky* factor…

Oh, and about Aishwarya Rai, I had read a newspaper report once, where there was a poll ranking the Indian actresses in terms of beauty. Of course, Ms. Rai won. But, there was an interesting comment from a guy. He said, that he could never imagine Ms. Rai making tea for him, in the kitchen clad in a sari. I think, that said it all.
IMO, she is far too perfect.
As for Nic Cage, Rahul Khanna and David Schwimmer, agree about the resemblance, but like Rahul Khanna the most.
Oh, and I like Salma Hayek too. π

Woah!Sexist comment!
I think Ash Rai is scary coz she is too perfect to be real. And she lacks a certain warmth that Sush Sen has!

He is cute too!

I second all the praise for Salma. But, are we forgetting the best Indian actress here? No one mentions Madhuri???? Or is she a gonner now because she is married????
I would place Madhuri at the top of any list of Indian or Hollywood actress.
August 31, 2004 — 3:21 am
Lakshmi says:
This wasn’t meant to be a list of best Indian actresses anyway. I was talking about how Salma Hayek’s beauty is so believable as compared to Ash’s… who is so picture-perfect and unimaginably lovely…

Salma Hayek’s very beautiful, looks pretty Indian in a way etc. – all agreed.
But Matthew Perry resembles Aamir? Poor Aamir :-p !!

lalunadiosa says:
I agree – Matthew Perry looks nothing like Aamir Khan!!!!
But I remember that Dermot Mulroney from My Best Friend’s Wedding reminded us of Aamir Khan when we watched the movie at Oddity’s house….now that I searched for his pix online, he doesn’t strike me as an Aamir look-alike!!!
August 31, 2004 — 9:16 am
rileen says:
Hmm, maybe it was some particular thing (‘puppy dog eyes’, anyone?) which Mulroney shared with Aamir ……

Rileen… why is it that I can’t fathom a WORD of what you’re saying? Is this another flavour of Hindi? Is it Hindi??

rileen says:
Sorry – mutilated Bhojpuri π
Not as mutilated as you must’ve heard in Hindi movies, though π
September 1, 2004 — 8:18 am
hariputtar says:
pardoned. i dont know bhojpuri myself. i dont really know any of the dialects in fact. mom speaks maithili, father speaks magahi (magadhi) – both of these dialects have their own corpus of literary work etc. and i speak *pataniya* hindi. unfortunate.
September 1, 2004 — 10:11 am
rileen says:
Pardoned? Kaahe, Bhojpuri ka thheka lele baada ka :-p ?
Please tell me you understood what i said, it was for you after all π
September 1, 2004 — 10:16 am
hariputtar says:
this much, i can indeed comprehend. can also see that it is not *correct* bhojpuri. however i cant correct it entirely. or myself write/speak bhojpuri. but most of the time, i can understand.
September 1, 2004 — 10:57 am
rileen says:
Can you see that it isn’t correct? I wonder how, since it is actually “Banarasi”, and i think whatever i’ve said so far is likely to be correct ….. and at any rate sure to be understood by a Banarasi.
September 1, 2004 — 10:59 am
hariputtar says:
bhojpuri ka thheka nahi, bhojpuri ke thheka. i checked with a colleague who actually *knows*.
*ka* is khadi hindi. in bhojpuri its not used that way. maybe in banarasi it is. u tried to pass off ur banarasi as bhojpuri ?
September 1, 2004 — 11:26 am
hariputtar says:
this is one of the mistakes. there are others.
September 1, 2004 — 11:27 am
rileen says:
I didn’t try to pass off anything as anything, Banarasi is the only Bhojpuri i’ve ever known.
*ka* is most definitely used in Banarasi, so perhaps i should be more careful from now on and point out that it is Banarasi – though “mutilated Bhojpuri” would still not be inaccurate :-p
September 1, 2004 — 11:30 am
hariputtar says:
so i see why u are persisting with *i am still right* opinion.
i said, its not how it is said in *bhojpuri*. and u said, its how it is in banarasi. that may be right. i thought banarasi is not bhojpuri. as it turns out, there is a banarasi-bhojpuri, indeed. (as google readily yielded).
so there. now u know how much i know about bhojpuri.
September 1, 2004 — 2:11 pm
rileen says:
See, to me Banarasi has always been what i called Bhojpuri, so your comment was like saying “you tried to pass off your pataniya Hindi as Hindi” – got bugged, now it just seems funny π
Of course, my Banarasi can be wrong too, it was never that good and i’ve been away for 9 years.
September 2, 2004 — 2:50 am
rileen says:
By the way, the loose translation into Hindi :
Khaali bhounkne se baat banti to kab ki ….. chhodo, nahi kaha ….
Makes sense now π ?

I’ve had a long and hard day – should go home now, so goodbye, and have a nice day.

you are SO RIGHT! Its the kind of tangible beauty that makes us jealous, because it is attainable, but not by us. Damn it! Not fair! But that;s ok, i think you’re pretty Lakshmi (but do you know which Lakshmi I’m talking about? You or me?…we might never know!!) Aamir Khan is my favourite Indian, haha! Really, he is! And I can’t stand looking at Aishwaraya Rai, because, just like you said, her beauty just isn’t normal…it’s almost like, it is SO abnormal, that it blends in with everything else. Jude law is HOTT!!!!! And that’s all there is to it. he simply had THE MOST BEAUTIFUL FACE any man could have. I want him…
See ya! lakshmi

Assume the Lakshmi you’re referring to is me… for my convenience!
Guess you’re coming over to Mona’s this weekend. I’ll be there too, mostly. Need to ask you how to wear that Cover Girl thingy.. I can’t, for the life of me, seem to recreate your *effect*.. Seriously..:-)
You know, after I met you, I was determined.. to get a new haircut, do my eyes like yours, get my brows threaded ASAP …. flattered?

hahaha! That’s pretty funny, considering, i forget to take my makeup off on most nights; i haven’t washed my hair in a week, AND i have always done my eyebrows myself….there’s no need to spend money threading!! Really, i promise! But yes, thank you, I’m VERY flattered!
…but don’t cut you hair please, because after a few months you’ll get SO tired of it…trust me, i know π
