arunshanbhag says:
yeah?
i generally do the opposite of what the media machine wants me to do – I will ignore the movie till it comes on DVD! and then i’ll add it to the bottom of my bottomless netflix queue! heeee heeeee!

This was a different film. I liked the book and even though Pinch had not read the book, he was the most eager to watch it. So that explains why we went!

glad you liked the movie (i gathered you did!).
the movie propaganda has been coming from all directions and I have tried my best to stay aloof – will eventually see it, but am truly not even curious.
… ok! I confess!
I wanted to protest the portrayal of academic faculty with bad hair! 😉
so insensitive!

I found the film fairly okay. Not a patch on the book.
Tom Hanks, bad hair in the film? Didn’t really strike me that way…:-)

ofcourse you should see the movie, but first
you need to all of Hayao Miyazaki’s movies – twice;
Casablanca and Love Actually; ten times each;
then I will e-mail you my favorite top 100 movies – watch all of those
then you have to change the diapers, cook and clean, …
… and then, watch DVC
😉

We’ve watched it on Saturday and we kinda liked it. It wasn’t so bad like how people made it sound. Also, we must have liked it since we have not finished the book, yet.

One of my friends really liked it herself. She read the book ages ago and loved it.

Lakshmi says:
Sure. I thought that the film was not a patch on the book. The script could have been stronger, the background score could have been MUCH better. For a subject as dramatic and impressive as this, the score should have been magnificent, larger-than-life but no, it barely touched me. There was no real chemistry between the actors. Most importantly, the significance of the subject was not brought forth at all. Come on, you are talking about Jesus Christ, the supposed conspiracy hatched by the Church in order to snatch power, the subjugation of the Sacred Feminine over thousands of years, the desperate struggle for power within the Church – this is no ordinary plot, no ordinary murder. But I didn’t feel like any of these were brought out in the film.
