For all of you who love Shakti as much as I do (I have my journal named after one of their most well known compositions – aren’t they lovely lines?), here is a treat – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SnUaFaivbPM.
After debating endlessly about God, His existence, etc. etc. it is time to drink in the music of the gods. Watch an impossibly young Shakti with John McLaughlin all but dancing with his guitar, Zakir Hussain grooving on the tabla, L Shankar coaxing unmaginably sweet melodies from his violin and a full-headed Vikku Vinayakram drumming away on the ghatam. In contrast, the two ladies giving the pitch seem so restrained. Had I been in any of their shoes, I would have had a tough time sitting still! Aah, to be in Bombay in that age and time…
