Sid’s post about superheroes and Batman got me thinking… I am not such a BIG comic-buff, not half as much as some of the people I know. But I think I like Spiderman a lot. He is this ordinary guy next door and his problems are real. He has a normal ego, some supernatural powers and the heart of a regular guy. He loves the girl next door and like many of us, is caught between his human responsibilities and supernatural ones. The best part is when he sees that the powers he has been blessed with can only be invoked for a greater good. When he tries to exercise them out of spite or vengeance, he literally falls flat on his face. That is the best lesson a superhero can teach, in my opinion. If you have your intentions right, the whole universe conspires to get you what you want. Ok, Paulo Coelho said something like that too…:-) Grace exists and sometimes we need Spiderman to drive that point home. That the best laid plans of men reach where they are meant to reach, that there is some strange mechanism that drives planets, galaxies, stars and skies towards a progressive goal of some sort and yes, the Universe is completely capable to taking care of itself.
