I *tried* to write but failed miserably. So I decided to put up some more pictures.
You can see some of the folks lighting the lamps. Dunno why these pictures were shrunk by Photobucket.
The first picture is that of Vishalakshi Mandap, the lovely meditation hall in the International Ashram of Art of Living, Bangalore. Second picture shows two American gentlemen blowing conches right before the Mahakriya began. Last picture is that of a Mongolian lady who is trying to direct all her fellow countrypeople with her flag.
A foreign woman bargains with a seller on Janpath. Such are the lovely wares displayed on that street.

I love the bargaining pic! Did you take it yourself? Was it posed?

Thanks!
I clicked it while the ladies were discussing the price. I don’t think they even noticed me.

Well, I meant to say that they might think that’s who you are…Silly reason, huh?

I was hoping they would go back to my user info and read the keywords aasociated with the pic.

Delhi looked like a nice city. Large roads, beautiful gardens, can’t believe it’s the capital that I am talking about and I sound like a darned tourist!

Thanks, Arun. As you can see, I couldn’t capture the lights during the Chuttuvilakku. Turn the flash off and the lights all swim together to form this huge mass of light. Keep the flash and the entire picture is drowned in artificial white light…:-(
However, I like the last picture of my Uncle lighting the lamps. That was taken without the flash and it seems to have turned out ok.

Small correction, it is Vilakku.
I was never adept at bargaining and so I am comfy in this country. But my hubby still plays the game wherever possible..:-)

The word that i used is a Tamil (Tamizh) word. Didn’t know it isn’t the same in Malayalam.
Oh… you stay in Chennai, you will learn to bargain by default.
