I have resolved that I must write a ‘little something’ daily, as far as possible. If anything, to get back into the habit of writing complete, cohesive sentences. Also need to get into writing practice for the GMAT and the application essays. Yikes!
Okay, today’s topic is the Hindi film that we watched over the weekend, namely ‘Lakshya’. Featuring Hrithik Roshan, Preity Zinta, Amitabh Bachchan and others, the film explores the metamorphosis of Hrithik Roshan from a confused youth to a confident army officer. Preity Zinta, whose role was entirely expendable, plays the part of a determined journalist, a la Barkha Dutt(quite a few others in the theatre also thought so!) who, most obviously, is/was Hrithi’s love interest. AB plays Hrithik’s senior officer and strangely enough, looks somewhat mummified.
All in all, this film was one of the better war movies, I think. Of course, I haven’t seen ‘Haqeeqat’ which was one of the best films in its genre as far as I’ve heard. After ‘Border'(too dramatic) and ‘LOC-Kargil'(too lengthy), ‘Lakshya’ is a decent offering from Farhan Akhtar. Makes me look forward to his next film… Unlike Kaisad Gustad, who suddenly appears like a one-film wonder after ‘Bombay Boys’ and ‘Boom’, Farhan Akhtar should come up with good films the third time around…
NOT A GOOD WRITING EFFORT AT ALL; TOO STRAIT-LACED, TOO PRETENTIOUS… the effort shows!

Hmmm… theatre experience would be good since there’re some great shots of the Himalayan ranges and roads…

You gotta start somewhere
That reads less like a review and more like “Ah, so you want me to talk about the movie …. umm …. o…k…a…y, here’s how it was” π
Too few details, in other words. I think you’re a little harsh about the writing, but yes, i would be lying if i said it’s a sterling effort.
Well, begun if not half done π

Thanks… *wry smile*
I steered clear of the details b’coz I thought that I might end up revealing too much… Past experience..:-)

But as i’d pointed out earlier, a detailed review can indeed be written without giving away too much (‘spoilers’) – for instance, you call Preity’s role ‘expendable’ and Amitabh ‘mummified’, yet nothing on Hrithik, around whom the movie supposedly revolves. Nary a word on the supporting cast, music, cinematography, what have you ……
Good, now i’m sounding like a major critic :-p
Not sure if i’m helping anymore, so shall call it quits now. Goodnight and sweet dreams (in advance for you U.S based people) ……

i thought it was a pretty decent movie …..notice how both DCH and Lakshya start by dealing with the present situation and then there is the flashback….there is the reconciliation between father and son at the end in Lakshya and between friends in DCH wonder if this gonna become his style…just ………just some of the observations among others..:)

Yes, I noticed that myself. Also, the music… Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy… so different from the run-of-the-mill stuff that one hears in Hindi films… Not the song tracks actually, but the background score…

the background score when they climb the cliff is real good

Yes, that’s one good melody… Also, the background scores of all the songs.. and the scenes during the IMA training…

What you’re saying makes perfect sense, Sonal… Just that I’ve fallen out of the habit of writing essays since school. Most of my writing is such an honest outpouring that it doesn’t necessarily conform to any set patterns of essay-writing anymore. For GMAT, I’m required to go back to the ‘essay’ mode of writing….
Thanks for the links you’ve sent, pal… I’ll check them… thanks again…:-)
