La Mala Education is an intriguing film. It keeps bringing back to memory all those vaguely disturbing scenes from the film. Anyone who has seen the movie knows what I am talking about. It also raises a whole lot of pertinent questions related to homosexuality, sexual abuse within the Catholic church, paedophilia and God knows what others. Gael Garcia Bernal is fabulous, as usual. There are certain scenes in the film where he plays a cross-dresser. Never before have I seen a better portrayal of a man posing as a woman. Most of the portrayals of this kind are so overt and crude. Not this time round. Precise, pretty and very very nice-looking…:-)
If I was younger, I would had a king-sized crush on this guy. Instead I will just watch every film of his. He is sweet, oh so sweet. The film is quite graphic and leaves a sadness lingering… Between Pinch and I, it got us talking on different topics. Is homosexuality more superficial than we think? Is it a factor of circumstances? Can sexual abuse cause someone’s sexual identity to alter? Is there that much of a difference between someone who is gay and someone who is not? Dicey questions and I don’t care for any theoretical answers. Does anyone actually know?

Personally, I don’t think that homosexuals are born any different from heterosexuals. It’s still a huge area where research is currently going on. Having had quite a few friends who are homosexual, I am inclined to think that it is more a case of circumstances, experiences and psychology though most people don’t admit that nurture is a big part of it.

i am a fag. and from tha tpoint of view it seems that being gay, being actually attracted to those of the same sex, must be different from the feelings that those who have been sexually abused have, in which they have trouble trusting, or fear, members of the opposite sex. for me, it’s not a repulsion from, fear or distrust of guys, it’s that i (my brain) am constructed to regard girls in the same way that most guys do.

Thanks for your perspective. It is something I really wonder about…

i’ve wondered about it as well.
and another thing that concerns me is about pedophilia. and if it has any biological basis as homosexuality clearly does.

Biological basis – what exactly does that mean?
