I will miss Bill Hemmer. He is smarter and more intelligent than too many of the others on CNN. Oops, for the non-TV-watching junta (arunshanbhag, hariputtar, diffdrummer) and the Indian-TV-watching junta (Too many names!), Bill Hemmer is one of the hosts on CNN’s morning news bulletin, American Morning. His co-host is Soledad O’Brien who loves woodwork jewellery and pink skirt suits. She is currently on maternity leave. The rest of the CNN’s morning team includes Jack Cafferty, who always looks like he has spent the night at work and Heidi Collins, who seems to have a preference for metallic coloured outfits.
Pinch has (finally) decided to get COMCAST cable out of the house. We’re in the ‘simple living, high thinking’ mode right now…:-))))Apparently, it does not include cable television!
Anyways, I have been instructed to look into the options of purchasing a satellite radio, that XM thingy. Any inputs, LJ-pals?

Ahem, anything that catches npr should suffice ?

I dunno what NPR is….hmmm? Btw, isn’t it too early on your side of the coast?

Interesting description of the Amercian Morning team.
Here on CNN, there’s this guy called Richard Quest whose speech really grates my nerves :-/

This guy used to be a business news reader on BBC World. He moved around the 9/11 episode. I remember he used to be good – prob cause he was brit and BBC being a brit channel there was some connection.
But on CNN this guy is awful.
These days he does these meeting the people on the roads thing. First was the European Quest when he met with people in the new EU member countries and now is American Quest ( yesterdays prog was from Florida ).

Heavy Brit accent, is it the same guy?
July 30, 2004 — 5:53 am
rileen says:
Brit? More like a ton of bricks on my (morning => fragile) senses :-p
July 30, 2004 — 5:55 am
Lakshmi says:
He seems to be unusually exuberant too; grating on the nerves is right…:-)

rileen says:
Yup, got to be the guy – he’s currently doing an election special called “American Quest” 🙂

She is currently on maternity leave. look what happens when you wear a pink skirt suit! (just kidding btw)
you don’t need XM radio. tune into npr. or any of the hundreds of free radio stations. XM only makes sense for a car radio if you are constantly on the road and going in and out of range of each radio station.

is there any free radio station that i can log onto the net in Bangalore and listen ?
And is there any sorta IP screening done which prohibits non-US IPs to log on ?
July 30, 2004 — 6:32 am
arunshanbhag says:
my friends listen to webradio all the time. I just don’t know of any sites at the top of my head. Just google webradio or FMradio. I don’t think they do IP screening – there is no reason for it

satellite radio
depends on how much of a radio fanatic/music lover you are. XM needs a monthly subscription, but if you’re one of those who must have the radio on morning – night, then satellite radio’s the best. Plugging it in the car, then the 2in1 when you come back home, great variety of channels to choose from…(esp. since amchi maati doesn’t have good music on compared to other metros)
