Busy and lovin’ it…

My two courses this semester (Communication and Gender, New Media and Youth) have been keeping me real busy but I am loving it – the sheer intellectual stimulation, the spirited discussions, the peeking inward to look for shared experiences and learnings – wonderful, wonderful! Feels like parts of my brain are awakening to new understandings of the world, people, concepts, ideologies.

I never considered myself a feminist but that was because my idea of who/what constituted a feminist itself was so flawed… and narrow. Now I know better and what do you know, I may be a feminist in my own way! I think male dominance, sexism, violence, etc. are manifestations of ignorance. Just as hunting (I know this is a sticky one!), exploitation, corruption, discrimination, etc. are major flaws in society that stem from ignorance too… and in my own way, in my capacity as an Art of Living teacher and volunteer, I am fighting it. So does that make me some kind of a feminist? Possibly yes.

This October, Guruji visited Atlanta and He gave me an indicator of what I should do with regard to my career, degree in Mass Communication and Art of Living programs. Suffices to say that His words released many knots within… and in a few months’ time, Inshallah, I will be teaching Art of Living courses in colleges – so YAYAYAY to that!

As this year draws to a close, I can hardly believe that I will be about a month closer to completing thirty years on this planet. What can I say, wonders never cease…
