Airline food menu

Airline food is awful. Actually, make that airline food in the USA. On my India trip this time, I did a fair bit of flying around and the food was always good. Something to note, they gave out actual silverware instead of the plastic stuff used here. The food was tasty, hot and fresh – really enjoyed eating on the flights within India. Sad to say, it is a different story this side of the Atlantic. Most of the food/snacks served only aggravates the vata imbalance in the system thereby causing gas, bloating and constipation coupled with that awful feeling of discomfort that comes from sitting in a cramped seat for hours. Peanuts, potato chips, soda – all these are REALLY bad if you’re flying.

En route to San Juan, Pinch and I came up with a menu. Food that should pacify the vata, ground the system and not lie in your tummy like a stone. This is what we came up with. Of course, this is a vegetarian airline (!) and so if anyone is willing to contribute to the non-vegetarian part of this equation, we can have a great thing going…:-)

Breakfast:

Water
Orange/Pineapple Juice
Milk (Soy/Plain)
Fresh fruits (grapes, strawberries, melons, bananas, pineapples)
Chocolate milk
Cooked Oatmeal (milk + Raisins + dried cranberries)
Tea (Ginger/Licorice/Tazo/Peppermint)
Fig/Date bars

Lunch:

Fresh fruits
Whole wheat pasta with zucchini and squash (Marinara/Pesto sauce)
Thin rice noodles with soy-tamarind sauce and vegetables
Rice pulao with vegetables and cucumber raita
Couscous pilaf with vegetables and yogurt

Tea:

Tea (Ginger/Licorice/Tazo/Peppermint)
Whole grain crackers

Dinner:

Tomato-Basil Soup seasoned with fennel
Pumpkin-carrot soup with ginger
Whole wheat breadsticks
Lentil-rice casserole (KHICHDI)

Making up this menu was a lot of fun since both of us enjoy good food that is healthy and well-proportioned in all its ingredients. Wish some airline would take this up…:-)
