Diwali morning (since I’ve spent most of them in B’bay) is associated with sunshine, kids running all over the staircases, squealing and laughing, plates filled with karanjis arriving from the neighbours, sporadic bursts of crackers, diyas neatly lined up along the balcony wall… Today is a rainy day where the only sound I hear is that of the random car whizzing past my bedroom door. Raindrops are suspended from evey naked branch that I can lay my eyes on and it is so still and silent. I think I’m going to turn on every light in the house to bring some kind of light into the dreary surroundings.

Not these two together at the same time, I guess!
We put a lot of candles all around and outside the house and make some Diwali-special food. I think V is going to make Karanjis today. She has a great recipe that uses Pepperidge farm pastry sheets and she bakes them instead of deep-frying. They are just yummy.
We buy fireworks at 4th of July time and save them for Diwali. Didn’t do that this year as Ashwini is too little to enjoy them properly. Don’t want ant accidents. But, you’ll see photos of her with fireworks next year.
BTW, wait for another month and you’ll be able to enjoy a late Diwali. 🙂
