Simply Being | Simple Being

A flicked meme..

I know memes are completely uncharacterstic of me… But couldn’t resist this one. For one, it is ridiculously simple and doesn’t involve unnecessary and extensive soul-searching either. But credit has to be given where it is due and it goes to splitpeasoup. Thanks, Apu for I have used your meme to fill up my boring pages…

Pick up interests from your User Info page that you don’t share with anyone. Explain, elaborate, whatever.
Added later: I know that everyone here is very LJ-capable but in case you can’t figure out what are the interests you don’t share with anyone, they are the ones that are not underlined…

Mine:

Amrithavarshini: This is a classical raaga in Carnatic music and one of my favourites. It has a slightly dark mood to it though I am sure that there are compositions in this raaga that have a lighter feel to them.

Paalada Pradavan: A particular kind of paayasam prepared in Kerala. I wanted so bad that it be the paayasam served at my wedding though that didn’t happen…:-(
I plain love it. It’s rich, creamy, pink and fabulous. Slurp.

Doodhi halwa: Halwa made from doodhi or bottle gourd(?). I love it and sadly, it was never made as often as gaajar halwa. It ranks way above gaajar halwa, as far as I am concerned.

Bru coffee: Coffee made from Bru that my Mom makes, specifically!

pavement book stalls: Ah, the fun and romance in buying books from the pavements in Bombay. What fun Pinch and I have had on those jaunts…:-)

Raag Durga: Another classical raaga in Hindustani music. I first heard Ustad Rashid Khan sing a composition in this raaga and Pinch and I were blown alike! Such a spirit of surrender, such devotion, it is a lovely raaga.

Sanjay Suri: So earnest, so lovable and so totally believably sweet.

Sheetal Mallar: What looks and those killer eyebrows.. she is such a looker.

Sliding Doors (the film): Loved the concept and Gwyneth Paltrow is delightful, as always.

Strawberries and cream: Loved the combination when I had it first. Am not so sure if I still have the taste for it.

Sunday mornings in B’bay: Steaming hot Idli-chutney, Sunday Mid-day, Rangoli, hot coffee, Mummy, Daddy, Geetu – man, would I die for those times again or what?

Thandaai: A drink I have had very few times in my life. Wonder why I put that down as an interest?

The jogan concept: Not so much a concept as it is the idea of unconditional love, surrender, bhakti – you can feel it, not ever explain or rationalise it.

Thrissur Pooram: A festival celebrated in Thrissur (and other parts of Kerala) around May. Fireworks, grand elephants, huge orchestras of men playing drums, cymbals and an assortment of other instruments, the searing sun, the traffic, the deity being brought out on the elephant… Pooram is the stuff legends are made of. Sigh.

Train coffee: Coffee served in steel tumblers some years ago and now in disposable plastic cups… In the trains that run from Bombay to Kerala. It’s the same drink, not the same taste… you need to ride in the Jayanti or Netravati to know what I mean!

Meme on!
