Two diametrically different posts in a matter of minutes… such is the power of music.
Meri bandagi hai wo bandagi
Jo ba qaid-e-dair-o-haram nahin
mera ik nazar tumhein dekhna
baa Khuda namaz se kam nahin
( My devotion is such devotion
that is not bound by the mosque and the temple
when I sight you once
by God, it is no less than a prayer )
-From Yeh jo Halka halka suroor hain by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan
How on earth can one explain to someone in logical terms what the above stanzas mean? It’s so completely experiential.
I surrender to you, again and again, again and again. You fill my senses, you flow through my veins, you are the very reason for all that is here, there and beyond. You move in strange ways and my throat chokes up when I prostrate to you, again and again. Through every act, word and deed of mine, I return to you. You are home, heart and everything that matters. You are the rise in my step, the dimple in my smile, the tear in my eye. You’re my fingers racing over the violin, you are the sweat on my brow, you’re my truest form.

beautifully written (NFAK and you).
I always belived the fervour of “bhakti” is best felt and cannot be described as well. Your notes are proof enough.
very nice!

Such is the power of Love, it makes everything One. Perhaps that’s why it is such an important ingredient of life and happiness.

– the song does inspire ecstasy π
– u’ve beautifully captured, the state of rapture. if u wrote books on experiential aspects of living under influence (e.g. ecstasy) – u wud strike it rich. π [ i will buy ur books for sure. π the other day i was flipping through a book on spirituality and LSD – that i had bought a year back.]
– Jung says, that the spasmodic impulses for dissolution arising in love / devotion is connected to impulses of suicide.
November 22, 2004 — 10:19 am
Lakshmi says:
NFAK has that element of rapture in his voice. It inspires total surrender or dissolution as Jung would term it?
Talking of suicide, some guy in college *read* my hand and pointed out the likelihood of me committing suicide in my early twenties due to failure in love. Hearing this, my usually unruffled Mom went all-emotional…:-)

The above stanzas are describing emotion. So do they really “mean” anything?
November 22, 2004 — 8:35 pm
Lakshmi says:
That’s what I meant. One can never realise the import of those verses unless you experience the emotion. Till then, it remains a purely intellectual understanding.
