Names interest me. All the time. Real-life names, reel-life names, user names, logins, online names… all of them. Hindu names are tantalising, all the more, because their meanings can be worked out. Knowing Sanskrit helps tremendously in this aspect.
‘Locks’ is self-explanatory. Well, not so much, maybe. ‘Locks’ derives from my name, Lakshmi. Another connotation of ‘Locks’ is a slightly vain one…:-)
Hair, period.
rileen, suraj and arunshanbhag… the name says it unless you’re impersonating someone. roopa1978 and radhika74, I guess you added your year of birth at the end of your name. diffdrummer marches to a different beat (I concur!) and hence the name. Right? hariputtar, I recall rileen mentioning that your Dad’s name is Hari. Is that the obvious explanation? Or are you a Harry Potter fan?
lalunadiosa, tomlinsonian, splitpeasoup and kookygoblin… what lies behind the name?
99kanitas.. what does IT mean?
*stumped*
lalunadiosa says:
Actually my name is grammatically wrong….I wanted to be called The Moon Goddess (don’t ask why…all I can say is I’m full of strange notions…especially about myself) but I thought it would be so much cooler in Spanish….so I translated directly substituting la for the and so on but then I found out from Chica Caribethat it should be Diosa de la luna…..but by then it was too late….kinda stupid but then that’s me π

Lakshmi says:
I like your name… it does have a *goddess* feel to it.
September 13, 2004 — 11:55 am
splitpeasoup says:
“I wanted to be called The Moon Goddess”
Because you are a luna-tic? π
Actually, it’s not entirely a joke: the word ‘lunatic’, and hence ‘loony’, does come from the same root at the word for moon. There used to be a belief that people went crazy during the full moon, hence the connection.
September 13, 2004 — 11:58 am
lalunadiosa says:
Yeah I had heard about the luna-lunatic connection before….in fact it was even mentioned in the Sherlock Holmes Creeping Man tale….
Anyway in my case the name just worked out to be apt for me π
And Locks, am glad you like it….I’m now so used to it that I don’t find it wrong anymore π
September 13, 2004 — 12:08 pm
splitpeasoup says:
I just happen to like split pea soup.
I know, it’s not a very interesting story π

tomlinsonian: perhaps owing to … http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ray_Tomlinson (a fellow LJ-er shud take credit for this),
99kanitas: still not figured out. ]
September 13, 2004 — 12:13 pm
Lakshmi says:
I did think that the name sounded familiar. Thanks for the link.
September 13, 2004 — 12:19 pm
lalunadiosa says:
I googled la luna diosa as well but did not see any scandalous stuff – it was mostly in Spanish – so I might not havd understood that it was scandalous π
September 13, 2004 — 3:27 pm
hariputtar says:
you are right – no scandalous stuff at all.
maybe google is pulling a “messiah’s handbook” trick on me. (thou shalt get to the page that is most appropriate for the hour, sorts …). i remember i reached some rather interesting pages that had *provocative* pics – last time i searched google. [ time sensitive search results … hmmm … not a bad idea, u know. ]
September 13, 2004 — 6:34 pm
lalunadiosa says:
Dash it – I want scandalous results to show up everytime la luna diosa is googled….I haven’t created a scandal since mid-summer….want to make sure my track record isn’t soiled!!!!
September 14, 2004 — 9:06 am
Lakshmi says:
Mid-summer? A *night dream*?
That was a pathetic attempt at *punning*..

tomlinsonian says:
hmm…
Tomlinsonian ghost is a term for a dead person who is stuck between
heaven and hell, going to neither place.(The hindi equivalent is
trishanku, if you are up and running on your mythology). And this is where I came across it http://www.livejournal.com/users/tomlinsonian/2004/03/29/
My actual name, Manu, is not a short form of anything. It is not the
name of the king Manu(who was a bigoted MCP) but represents primordial
man, manu-shya, the originator of mankind. π
And hariputtar, never knew of Ray Tomlinsonian….interesting..
September 13, 2004 — 5:53 pm
Lakshmi says:
Re: hmm…
Coincidental how the topic of the conversation two days back was Trisanku…:-)
Talking of mythology, did you know the reason why onions and garlic are not eaten by certain religious sects? One of the mythological reasons is : they grew in Trisanku’s *heaven* and nowhere else… Interesting, hmmm?
September 14, 2004 — 6:15 am
tomlinsonian says:
Re: hmm…
hmm..by religion, we are not supposed to take onions/garlic either..but we do, in plentyful quantities..blame it on the andhra genes.. a little while later..wanted to use that, but had a couple of friends on this already, and didn’t want to give them trouble.
Also, i got
Manu

And many others too who practise meditation. Like sugar, onions and garlic also have an effect on the depth of your meditation.

99kanitas says:
Ninety-nine kanitas under my bed,
Ninety-eight jumped off and broke their head,
Mama called the doctor and the doctor said,
“No more kanitas under the bed!”
One little kanita when the day was done,
Went home to sleep, then there were none.

Or it is astra as in the Brahmastra?
Or something related to the stars as in astral?
September 14, 2004 — 8:31 am
astra1111 says:
the actual reason why i put astra was…
it sounded so heavenly … and ‘1111’ cause it follows me everywhere its lucky for me…
September 14, 2004 — 8:52 am
lalunadiosa says:
