Lost in Translation is not just a film, it’s an experience that lingers on in your consciousness long after you’ve mailed the DVD to Netflix. A wonderfully sweet film, it has the slightest whiff of romance and a story which is utterly honest and real-life. It has been shot entirely in Tokyo and the excellent camera-work brings the busy city to life. Traffic crossings, brightly lit malls, electronic billboards, gaming booths, temples, bells… each image is beautifully shot and memorable. Scarlet Johannson is beautiful, Lolitaesque in her features with none of the tartiness. I am sure she is only gonna look better as she grows older. Bill Murray is a damn good actor; must watch more of his films. I loved the background score too; it came in at the right moments to set off the mood. Such a simple story; it’s one of my favourite story themes. Love needs no translation, no definition. It defies age, background, sex and what have you. You can experience it, never explain it. Like all the lovely things in life, it’s best left unexplained. No words can encapsulate the emotion nor justify it.
Btw, what do you think Shinotora and Rogemoora means???!!!
Watch the movie for this one-liner; it left me roaring with laughter long after!

Only the dubbed version was shown here, thus it was ‘lost in translation’ 😉
However, i was lucky enough to watch it in Paris and quite enjoyed it.
No praise for Sofia Coppola?

Hey Locks,
On a different note, have you watched Choker Bali?If not,do see it. I am sure you’ll be able to derive different kinds of meanings from the film and will enjoy it.

I have watched the film, Sthira. I thought it was a beautiful film but I need to watch it again… I couldn’t figure Binodini out. She came across as quite an enigma to me.

I think she was a mix of love, passion, desires, history, injustice, society ,norms, rebellion, courage, confidence, respect and ideals.

*grin* The last scene right before he leaves. The poignancy. Bill Murray’s claim to fame is the Ghostbuster series..umm… :D. (good campy fun though).
All right, now that we both loved this one and g’bye, Lenin — I feel fully qualified to recommend : Sideways.
Excellent excellent movie.
