Azhage nin mizhineer… there IS something about this song. Whenever I attempt singing it, I barely get beyond a couple of lines. My throat chokes up completely and my eyes fill up. Strange that a song can evoke such an extreme reaction…
Another song which brings forth a similar reaction is Enge enadhu kavithai from Kandukondein Kandukondein. And Raga Sudharasa from Sargam…
The nerve center or nadi, situated in the throat, is responsible for two emotions namely, grief and gratitude. I think it must be gratitude that causes tears to fall. Gratitude towards the Divine who blessed me with an intact sense of hearing. Gratitude towards Mummy and Daddy and Geetu to whom I owe my sense of music. Gratitude towards each and every teacher of mine who helped me to develop my taste in music. God, thank you for the music!

Ragas Kanada & Hindolam
Tears flood into my eyes like my daughter when I listen to Kanada and Hindolam (Darbari and Malkauns). I wonder what a power certain Ragas have got.

The first line, a window that looks into the dark night, the nostalgia of a million memories, magic.
