Woke up late this morning; figures that Pinch set the time for the alarm, just forgot to set the alarm! Scrambled out of bed at 7:30 right out of a series of dreams(strange, as always!)… and strangely feeling somewhat out-of-sorts. A queer mix of homesickness, discontent, clogged-nose-phlegmy-throat feeling and thank God for small mercies! The weather looks good.. The house looks dirty..:-(
The weekend was good, though… Saw a German film ‘Goodbye Lenin’ and that was VFM. No patience to blog about it, though… Gulab jamuns turned out to be strictly passable, after 2 failed attempts, though…
I miss Mummy, Daddy and Geetu…:-(
I need to study for GMAT… Ugh!
My throat is clogged, so is my nose… and my intestines too!
:-)))
Have cribbed enough for the entire week… Lousy start to a week!
Would love to read from diffdrummer !!!

Naah, Rileen.. I am not such a big fan of hot chocolate. Gimme a steaming cup of tea or my Mom’s Bru coffee any day..:-)

Bru – Mom’s? Confusion is utter 🙂
I was going to type coffee, but for some reason hot chocolate seemed more apparent. Anyway, hope you had something hot and are feeling less listless ……

Arre, I mean.. the Bru coffee that my Mom makes… Lovely! Friends flocked home for my Mom’s dosas and coffee… Dil dhoondta hain woh phursat ke raat din!

this is turning bad. your mention of monsoons (in annotations to my posting) – and home-food here – suddenly brought some memories rushing back. i have that sinking feeling – now i am homesick, too.

Re: *contagious*
Was on the verge of calling you Sonu.. then thought that that might be doing the nostalgic bit too much… In case that happens to be your nickname at home or something…:-)
Homesickness is awful; hits like a punch in the tummy and then it isn’t too long before I dissolve into tears. A song, a whiff, a phrase… anything could elicit it. God, I dunno if I’d ever be able to beat it…
Relax, pal.. Tomorrow will be a better day…:-)

Arre, i was just pulling your leg 🙂 …… you’re getting quite nostalgic, how long has it been since you left home?

Lakshmi says:
Well, I landed in Atlanta on Christmas Day.. so that makes it close to 4 months, just short of 4 months…
But homesickness isn’t exactly a factor of time, Rileen…

Tell me again after some more time – it’s not that you don’t miss home any more, but one learns (if only out of necessity) to adjust.
April 20, 2004 — 9:15 am
Lakshmi says:
That’s true, Rileen… Rather, one starts missing home in a different sorta way… One that is hopefully sans sadness…

A foolproof way of avoiding homesickness is to make a ‘home’ of your own.
April 20, 2004 — 11:08 am
Lakshmi says:
One can make one’s own home… but can one help missing one’s family? Okay, one can also make a family of one’s own… Bottomline, I miss my parents and my sister.
April 20, 2004 — 11:10 am
parag says:
Yes! I think you are getting the idea. Make your ‘own’ home and family and then you are never away from it. I am sure you never expected to live with your parents and sister forever and neither did they. 😉 It is a bitch to change the way of life that one is used to.
Think about how bad your husband feels that he can’t keep you happy and/or busy enough so that you don’t miss your parents and sister.

I know what you mean, thanks to a Mallu ex-colleague – he said the only time his father gave him a sound thrashing in his childhood was when he retaliated to a scolding with ‘Poda patti’ 🙂 !!
