Nectar for the soul

Rab Ne Kinne Shaan Banaye
Be Karma Te Karm Kamaaye
Jehda Vi Tere Dar Te Aaye
O Na Kabhi Bhi Khaali Jaaye…

Roughly translated as,

‘The Divine has created such glories,
(I don’t dare translate this for fear of being wrong),
Whosoever comes to your doorstep
Does never go empty-handed’

I have been breathing in Sufi melodies this weekend that went by. Aah, it’s pure nectar for the soul!

Another one that I heard and it instantly became one of my favourites…

Saanson ki mala pe simroon main pee ka naam
Apne mann ki main jaanoon aur pee ke mann ki Ram…

Translated as, ‘With every breath I take, I chant the name of my beloved
I know of my heart, and God knows of the heart of my beloved… ‘

All qawaalis can be found on Music India Online and YouTube.

Correction – The second composition isn’t a Sufi qawaali though it has been sung by Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. It’s a devotional song for Lord Krishna.
