This happens to be another favourite poem of mine. I intended to post it right after ‘Dream Deferred’. So here it is… Btw, this has no reference to my Memorial Day post at all…
Midsummer, Tobago
Broad sun-stoned beaches.
White heat.
A green river.
A bridge,
scorched yellow palms
from the summer-sleeping house
drowsing through August.
Days I have held,
days I have lost,
days that outgrow, like daughters,
my harbouring arms.
— Derek Walcott
As obvious as it might seem to anyone who has been reading my posts(I AM ONE OVERGROWN CRYBABY WHO WEEPS AT THE DROP OF A HAT AND KEEPS GRIPING ABOUT MISSING HER FAMILY!), I have to say; I love the last two lines…. Simply brilliant.
