Hindi films seem to have taken a wrong turn somewhere. K and I always watch the seediest Hindi films together. She has no one to watch them with and I know that I can never get Pinch to watch them with me. Thus we managed to watch Julie, Inteqaam and now Rog. Except that Pinch joined us for this one. Rog is such a ridiculous film. Btw, it’s a Pooja Bhatt production. Starting off as a murder mystery, it quickly does away with all such illusions and turns into one helluva skin show. Starring Ilena Hamann whose only claim to fame is a big pair of you-know-what and Irrfan Khan (he was so good in Maqbool), the film loses all semblance of a plot/script in less than 30 minutes. One thing though: Hindi films have finally broken free of the *flower-nudging-flower* symbolism and have graduated to open-mouthed kissing! This film has one of those…
Baran is a masterpiece. Beautifully shot with minimal dialogue and great acting, this film is a definite winner.

Songs were good, I agree… But the script was so weak and the performances except Irrfan’s… dismal. Like that Harsh guy… what a loud act that was!

What is Suheil Seth doing in the movie. He is one man I admired, till i saw him in the promos of Rog.

I swear… I could hardly believe that it was Suhel Seth! Is he hard on cash that he needs to do such seedy flicks?

On the whole, i still think the 80s were the worst decade for commercial Hindi movies. There’s a lot of junk nowadays, but i think the number of watchable movies, small as it is, is somewhat higher than the ‘glory days’ of all the stuff churned out by Dharmendra, Jeetendra, Mithun & others in the 80s (yes, Amitabh did some of his worst movies then as well).
Hadn’t heard of Baran – noted.

Thanks, that explains why i hadn’t heard of it – just read about it on IMDb, definitely seems worth watching if available.
