The sambar from Vishu dragged over and we decided to make idlis for lunch. Using the MTR mix, of course…:-) The onus of lunch fell on yours truly and with a complete sense of foreboding, I embarked on the task. To cut a long story short, spills, lumps and messes later, we subsisted on leftovers for lunch.
My adventurous husband decided that the salvaged batter could be used to prepare dosas. Well, the two dosas which turned out were awful enough. Back to the idli plan… for today’s breakfast. Too less of water in the pressure cooker resulted in burnt cooker and burnt idlis… What a great way to start a Friday morning…:-)
Thankfully, both sambar and idlis are over…Phew!

From experience – none of those packets work for idlis.
A kerala company called Waynaud (sp?) offers frozen foods, including appams, idlis, etc which are excellent. Another brand is Daily Delight (I think). We get it here in Boston. You prolly will get it at the Fulton County, International Food Market in Atlanta.
-i can get exact details if you don’t already know of it.

Arun, we’d used this mix before and the results were not-so-bad. Just that I did it somewhat wrong…. COme to think of it, I’d rather make idlis the traditional way…:-)
Thanks for the info; I’ll look for it at the Indian stores around here…thanks again!

Yip the ‘normal’ route I’m sure would be the best than these quick fix solutions! But these quick fix packets are quite a blessing…
