Which parts of India celebrated it yesterday? I am in North India and as far as I know, the entire country is celebrating it today.
And a happy janamashtmi to you too. 🙂

Oops, it is Wednesday in USA and I meant to say that North India celebrated it on Tuesday! Forgot that it is still Tuesday in India at this moment…:-)

Ohhh, got quite confused, didn’t I? What I meant was, North India celebrated it on Tuesday midnight-Wednesday morning and in USA, we will celebrate it on Wednesday midnight-Thursday morning.

We are clebrating it Wednesday midnight-Thursday morning too. At least Delhi, Haryana, UP, Maharashtra etc all seem to be celebrating it tonight.

Lakshmi says:
Really? Didn’t know that it’s celebrated over two days…
August 16, 2006 — 4:15 pm
rparvaaz says:
It isn’t. But sometimes different groups celebrate it on different days, because of a tithi which splits over two days. Which is why I asked which Indians celebrated it yesterday. I didn’t hear of any, but I wasn’t watching the news yesterday. And there has been no such mention in the papers today. 🙂

Wish you the same, Indu!

What the hell are you talking about? This is Janmashtami. Krishna was born on this day. Didn’t die and then rise up to the heaven.
Some evangelicals may come to beat you up for blasphemy.

Isn’t this pic from the Gita? As are the other pix shown in the opening scenes of Mahabharata?
Janmashtami – was celebrated on one day in North India and Maharashtra (when they had Handi phod) and was celebrated that midnight by Southies (or at least Tams). Why does Kerala celebrate it 1 month later? Rukavat ke liye khed? 😉

Yes, these were shown as the credits rolled on for the serial.
The 1-month gap between N. India and Kerala celebrating Janmashtami is probably on account of the difference in the calendar followed.
