Forts in Old San Juan

El Morro is one of the forts that stands sentinel at the edge of the city. Old San Juan was a walled city initially that drew up the gates to protect itself in times of invasions. There are other smaller forts that guard the island from different sides. San Cristobal is another fort that has acquired prominence on account of its location. There is a beautiful walkway by the sea that connects these two forts. When we visited El Morro, it was a sunny day and the wind was strong. There were many families visiting the town and people were flying kites. Pinch and I planned to return the next day with a kite but we ran out of time and the desire remained unfulfilled. Maybe some other time…:-)
