Food Network Star

There’s this new reality show that seeks to discover the next Food Network Star – someone who’ll have his/her own cookery show. I am not a fan of reality shows but this one seems different. The participants seem to be genuinely concerned about showing their craft and most of the tasks are quite daunting, even for the most experienced of cooks. There is none of that awful griping and bitching that characterises most reality shows – both Pinch and I enjoy watching it.

Some of the challenges these guys have faced – cooking food for a 100-person reception, cooking and serving food at a stadium to hungry fans, coming up with a grilled food item in one and a half hours and serving it to the judges, cooking a dish involving chocolate plus giving a tip on chocolate.

All the challenges seem like such fun especially if you’re working on it as a team. Deciding on a recipe, buying ingredients from the store, putting it all together, presenting it to judges – even more fun is cooking for a wedding. Now that’s something I’d like to do as a team!

I remember during Geetu’s wedding at Tharakkal, Pinch was so excited about staying up the night helping with the cooking. Well, we didn’t do it but the idea gave us a lot of happiness… 🙂 Daddy had done the same during our wedding but he actually did it. He stayed up all night, supervising the cooking, helping with the chopping and cutting of vegetables… he finally went to sleep close to dawn and woke up right in time for the wedding – he is so cute! Hopefully I’ll get to be there at the weddings of my younger cousins (whenever they happen!) and this time, I am surely going to stay up night to help with the cooking!
