Who wants to watch home insurance ads or Mohammed Ali’s old boxing matches when you can watch the pre-match shots and the national anthems? Really, ESPN can be quite moronic some times.

advertisements …
All of the American sports are optmized for TV in the sense that there are periodic breaks which ensures that the network can stick in ads during the course of the game.
Soccer , being a non stop game , doesnt allow that kind of breaks , hence espn tends to club all its ads together in the beginning & that also explains 1:55PM Start time for a match that actually starts at 2PM . They have musberger & co chatting for 10-20 secs & then its all ads.
If you catch the reruns on the matches in Spanish Channels , you can catch the anthems & the teams walking in etc.
