Chana dal a.k.a. Masoor dal!

Quite a silly title, I know… There was this one solitary sweet potato lying in the fridge since quite some time. Finally decided to make something out of it and searched high and low for a recipe online. Got a recipe for ‘Sweet Potato and Capsicum Rice’ on some Indian recipe website. Now this required the use of chana dal… Yours truly is slightly the befuddled type when it comes to dal fundas. Repeated calls to my better half and a hurried message on his voicemail got me nowhere… No answer from Pinch and time was running out.
Guess you must have figured out what happened next… Using the theory of elimination I landed on an orangish dal which had to be chana dal(I thought!) since toor dal was pink and urad dal was white…
Well, all might just NOT be well that ends well… The long and short of it is, I used MASOOR DAL wherever I had to use chana dal. Btw, this was told by Pinch who called up when I’d finished cooking… Supposedly, his cellphone was switched off since last night!!!!
He’s coming for lunch… and I did taste it and thank God for small mercies! It’s pretty passable…
Am going to ask him to label the dal containers over the weekend….:)

On the other hand, I really enjoyed the Art of Living course which began yesterday. Will go on for 5 days more… Looking forward to today’s session…

Just learnt that it was toor dal, not masoor dal… Plus this dish was supposed to have peanuts in it. A little too many of them fell into the rice when I was cooking and now Pinch vouches that this evening I am going to be levitating during the yoga session!
