I read somewhere that a guy realises that he’s getting old when he looks into the mirror and sees his father in it. What about a daughter? I’ve always been my Dad’s replica, even sounded like him! And I have even started greying at the same age that he did. Earlier, in fact! As time passes, more similarities assert themselves. Sudden flare-ups of temper, choke-ups during Malayalam films, the yearning for a good Kathakali recital, the preference of classical/semi-classical music to other forms, impatience… I think I’m turning into my Dad.

Yeah me too….well almost….
I realise that I am becoming more and more like my Mom everyday….there are times when I catch myself saying something and getting this sense of deja-vu ‘cos that would be something my Mom would have said….that and my prematurely greying hair and my intolerance for things that are not done my way!!!
Btw I have a valid reason for my preoccupation with aging…whats your excuse???

if u are not like ur mom or dad … thats a matter of concern. not levity.
when i was young and unruly, i wud get into trouble once in a while, and my mom wud have to punish me sometimes: at such times i wud howl and raise doubts if i was my parents son at all … i wud claim that i had been adopted and thats why i was being treated so bad. or some such madness. god, such drama.

Hahaha – that sounds familiar!!!!
Sadly I look and sound so much like my Mom that it would be tough for me to claim that I was adopted!!!!

What’s your reason? Btw, I don’t have any reason as such. Found myself listening to Malayalam film songs so damn often; couldn’t help being reminded of my Dad!

I have my mom’s mannerisms, and my dad’s moods! In addition, I’m told I look like both my aunts (my mom’s sister when i’m nice and pleasant, and my dad’s sister when i’m nasty and horrid!*grin*)!I’m getting used to relatives stopping to stare and find traits in me that remind them of someone!

I now have good evidence to prove my hypothesis that the first signs of aging, makes you wax philosophical.
perhap, we finally realize, we are not immortal! I find my legs hurt more after my run! OMG! and now reading glasses! banish the thought! Long live audiobooks on the iPOD.
PS. I am taking after my dad as well (again, Inshallah!)

For most guys, they adore their fathers and look upto them for a lot of things in life. I think their mannerisms automatically get carried forward.
Looking is another part of the story though.
Am not sure if women go through the same in life.

Well, I adored my Dad (still do!) and genuinely believe that there’s no one brainier and nicer than him! Of course, in my kiddie days, he scared me to bits with his temper! Just that most of his looks (and his hoarse voice too) came my way…:-)
I’ve heard that some women look for their Dad’s traits in the man they love…

OT, but i immediately thought of Mark Twain –
When I was a boy of 14, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But when I got to be 21, I was astonished at how much the old man had learned in seven years.
