A Mighty Heart

Watched the film last night. It is a well made film with a taut script and excellent performances. Angelina Jolie plays Mariane Pearl, wife of Daniel Pearl, the WSJ journalist who was murdered in Pakistan. The film looks like a documentary for the most part of it but it never turns dull or boring. Best of all, it passes no judgment whatsoever and makes no drama out of the sorry situation. As Mariane, Angelina has excellent dialogues – her dignity, strength, determination and focus shine through. I think she truly brought Mariane Pearl to life. Dan Futterman plays Daniel Pearl. He really endears himself to the audience with his charm, sincerity and youthfulness…

Irrfan Khan plays Javed Habib, head of CID, Pakistan. With every film of his that I watch, I like him more and more… 🙂 I have The Namesake at home – have heard rave reviews about his performance in it. Btw, I just finished watching Life in a Metro and both Konkona Sen and Irrfan Khan have turned in such delightful performances – I loved watching them together. According to Geetu, Konkona was the original choice of heroine in The Namesake but she couldn’t do it because she didn’t have dates. Now that’s another amazing actress – I adore the way she slides effortlessly into any role that she takes up. She was fantastic in Omkara, Traffic Signal, Mr. and Mrs. Iyer and Life in a Metro. Such an effortless actress – I am sure that she has some great performances coming up.

This is really inexplicable – watching Shilpa Shetty and Konkona playing the parts of sisters in the film reminded me of Geetu and myself. Now I bear no resemblance to Shilpa Shetty though I could think of similarities between Geetu and Konkona… how random!!!
