I am a little bit of a retard as far as makeup is concerned. In the humid city of Bombay, hardly any makeup survives. Foundation, blush, lipstick – each runs into the other melding into sweaty patches! Kajal is the hardy one that survives and the beauty of kajal is – the more smudged it is, the sexier it looks… or so I think! “Controlled smudging” is the key…:)
It is different in the US. At least, here in the South, hardly anyone is seen out of their homes minus makeup. I have gotten this far without succumbing to the trend but every once in a while, I look at a woman with perfect makeup and sigh. But I have a grouse with buying any makeup. Just pick up any bottle/tube of makeup (foundation, blush, lipstick, mascara, what have you) and you’ll see a list of ingredients that sound so vile… why would you knowingly use it on yourself?
I heard an NPR piece a long while back about how regulations on manufacturing cosmetics are far more stringent in Europe than in the USA. I met a girl last year who used to order her kajal from a German website (http://www.santulan.net/shopxt/). Now I need to find out more about this…
Kajal remains my eternal favorite for the eyes. A thin black line of eyeliner, if the occasion demands it but kajal – you’ll always find it encircling my eyes.

Where do you get yours from? I’ve been sticking to eyeliner because its easier to apply, but kajal is better any day.

A friend got me a tube of Biotique from India a couple of years back and it is still going strong…
I have asked another friend to get me a tube of Shenaaz Hussain’s kajal on her parents’ Atlanta visit.

personally i dont like shenaz hussains kajal.. it smudges just way too much … i regretted buying it.. though it was long ago.. wonder if it has changed…
i use the revlon colorstay and its really good… the lancome retractable eye pencil is also good though on the expensive side… i think its about 21 something bucks,..
