Black is back!

Whatever that means… 🙂 Harks to an earlier era in Bombay; lyrics of a song, maybe?

Never mind, I am back and I promise (to myself more than any one here!) that I’ll write regularly. I solemnly swear, yes, I do!

I gripe (or used to gripe) about the difficulty in finding clothes in the US. I am 5’6″, fairly slim and have a taste for prints. Of late, I have started finding good stuff at Target. Most of the tops are plain, maybe a little print but that was all. How I missed the rich designs from India – no wonder I racked up huge bills at Shoppers Stop on every India trip! I love ethnic prints in shades of orange and maroon. I love the little embellishments – bells, decorative buttons, tassels. I love using traditional prints in skirts, shorts, sleeveless Tees. I love combining plain white shirts with diaphanous skirts in bright bandhani. I love Indian embroidery on silk, tussar, khadi. I love starched Lucknowi suits in shades of peach, pink, grape and lavender.

It’s more than four years since I have been living in the US and I have finally made peace with the paucity of all that I love here… well, I have found new things to love.

Here is to layering – slinky camisoles with filmy blouses, snug denim jackets with pretty dresses, flowered skirts, girly tops with cap sleeves, linen pants, sleeveless baby tunics with pants… hmmm.
