On Giving

A long time back, I had posted a lovely poem by Kahlil Gibran ‘On Giving’. In USA, Christmas is the season for gifts, generosity, giving. Plus I have so many new friends on my list this year. Here is the poem – my pleasure in posting.

On Giving

There are those who give little of the much which they have – and they give it for recognition and their hidden desire makes their gifts unwholesome.

And there are those who have little and give it all.

These are the believers in life and the bounty of life, and their coffer is never empty.

There are those who give with joy, and that joy is their reward.

And there are those who give with pain, and that pain is their baptism.

And there are those who give and know not pain in giving, nor do they seek joy, nor give with mindfulness of virtue;

They give as in yonder valley the myrtle breathes its fragrance into space.

Through the hands of such as these God speaks, and from behind their eyes He smiles upon the earth.

— Khalil Gibran

In other news, it is that time of the year again. Gifts, Christmas parties, long weekends, holidays, winter chill, shopping – this last one month has been incredible for me. I was told in no uncertain terms that I needed to look for a new job. Same story, current project was ending and since I couldn’t relocate to another city AND there was no local project in sight, it made sense for me to look around. The job hunt went on for a while – leads came up, some cooled down, some never went forward until one finally started looking promising. A couple of interviews done, a couple of anxious weeks passed by and then I got the offer letter. Then came the question of compensation, vacation, my India trip, etc.

To cut a long story short, I have a new job that I am REALLY excited about PLUS I have to join only after I return from India (which means I don’t lose any vacation from the new job) and best of all… I have some vacation pending on this job and the best way to use it is going on the Art of Living TTC Phase I. What I did last year was the Sri Sri Yoga Teacher’s Training Phase I. The one that I am going to this year – it’s the regular Teacher’s Training Course Phase I. I’d wanted to go for this one earlier this year and it didn’t work out for a variety of reasons and now it has come together in the most beautiful way possible.

Can hardly wait for Christmas this year when I leave for Texas for the course – with Gurudev in my heart, there is such joy, such gratitude.
