I met an old colleague online yesterday. He was logging in from Santiago, Chile. His last assigment had been in Cairo, Egypt which came right after Port Louis, Mauritius. Another college pal has been traipsing all over Europe. God, travel is SUCH a life-altering experience. It would be no understatement to say that it adds a different dimension to your self. Adds an additional layer to your epidermis… Honest! The one year that I spent in Cairo makes me feel as if I have a certain facet to myself which is wholly Arabic. What a experience it would be, living all over the world. A year in Turkey, a few months in London, some time in Malaysia, then Brazil, Eastern Europe, Morocco, Japan, … what a dream!
Some months back, I compiled this list of DDs (Dream Destinations) with an online pal of mine and posted it on Sulekha. Here it is…If Wishes were Horses – Dream Destinations…

Just another s/w company, DD… Not so much the dream job as much the fact that it afforded you to travel!

Yesss! Loved the bit about the crystal seller who refused to visit Mecca since then his life would be w/o purpose. That seemed to ring a bell ๐

Can’t let this post pass without adding my $0.02 ๐
I notice you have mentioned Malaysia. If you have
a choice of just 1 place to visit there, my
recommendation is to visit the Tioman Islands.
It is a wonnnddderful place, with the clearest emerald
green waters that I have seen so far. Snorkelling
(or diving, if you are a pro) in those waters was an
ethereal experience for us. Suja (my wife) would have
uploaded the snaps somewhere and I should fwd a link
(when i get around to doing it :-))
And while mentioning Indian dream destinations, I
reckon you forgot to mention Lahaul/Spiti/Chandrataal…
In the unlikely event of your not having heard of
them, may i recommend bowling a few ‘google’y’s ?
regards
ramesh
