Borrowed this from Sulekha where I’d put this up some months ago…
Dil Dhoondta hain Phir wahi phursat ke raat din…
Now this is a refrain I’ve echoed a zillion times. In the middle of a busy project, late nights, missed lunches, scary deadlines…
Technically, I am in a state of phursat currently. Yet, I can’t help missing the phursat of youth. The phursat of my junior college when walks along Marine Drive, English movie afternoons, lazy Chemistry practical sessions and French tuitions were the order of the day. Engineering was more or less phursat too with attractive seniors, coffee appointments, cultural festivals, literary societies, quizzing clubs and mindless philosophising…
Dil dhoondta hain phir wahi phursat ke raat din
Baithe rahe tasavvur-e-jaana kiya hue,
Dil dhoondta hain phir wahi phursat ke raat din…
Jaadon ki narm dhoop aur aangan mein let kar,
Aankhon pe kheenchkar tere aanchal ke saaye ko,
Aundhe pade rahe kabhi karvat liye hue,
Dil dhoondta hain phir wahi phursat ke raat din..
Ya garmiyon ki raat jo purvaaiyaan chalein,
Thandi safed chaadaron pe jaage der tak,
Taaron ko dekhte rahe chhat par pade hue,
Dil dhoondta hain phir wahi phursat ke raat din…
Barfili sardiyon mein kisi bhi pahaad par,
Waadi mein goonjti hui khaamoshiyan sune,
Aankhon mein bheege bheege se lamhe liye hue
Dil dhoondta hain phir wahi phursat ke raat din…
Love the sheer imagery and picturesque quality of the song plus the melody… Personally, I like the version which is slightly fast-paced.

Hmmm… This was the song from Gulzar that a close friend of mine from SP, Andheri recorded and gifted me – told me listen to this, you will know what music is… this was more than 10 years ago in Bombay… Thanks for the trip down memory lane…

– Miss those cloudless nights when I slept out in the open…..loved the stars and loved to count shooting stars….
Miss my college days too…..what a wonderful time it was, even if I didn’t always realize it back then……
