I got these two Ganesha idols as wedding gifts. I’ve always thought that Ganesha has the perfect face. Inspite of being elephant-headed, the features always seem to be in perfect proportion. But these two idols appear to be ‘African-elephant-headed’ Ganeshas…. Apart from the disproportionately wide ears, they’re plain perfect.

nice pics, I agree – the ears seem extra large.
Can you adjust the camera to not put the time stamp?
🙂

Why? I can’t help it! They just finished sequencing my DNA and guess what they found. The “COMMENT” Gene in a prominent position. Now you know why.
HeeHeeHee.
I can’t get over your userpic. The ‘SunDance’ is really well done.

They are such nice pieces. I have been collecting Ganesh idols for a long time. Have probably 25 of them at home. Next visit to India will be an opportunity to buy a few more.
Same suggestion/request as Arun… Please turn off the date stamp.

Notice that except for the laddoo, all the remaining 3 hands of Ganesha are missing i think the conch, lotus and an axe. But then I have seen various versions with different things. Which reminds me – for all the fellow Bombayites, Siddhivinayak temple is seeking an ISO 2001 certifications. This was featured as an article on TOI E-paper front page.
Here is an excerpt,
Mumbai: Lord Ganesha is seeking a quality seal of approval: ISO 9001-2000 certified. When the trustees of the Siddhivinayak temple at Prabhadevi decided last October to engage a consultancy firm to bring its services up to scratch and to seek a quality tag of international standards, it was probably the first shrine in the country to do so.
Although ISO (International Organisation for Standardisation) is essentially a quality standards body, it also undertakes financial auditing and certification if asked. But that’s not in its ambit for now. If the trustees have their way, corporate mantras like gap assessment, management review and delivery mechanism will soon share mindspace with Shree Ganesh stotras at this popular shrine, which draws two lakh devotees every week and pulls in crores of rupees in offerings.
The basic idea, say the trustees, is to give devotees an assured quality of service. “We are already in the process of finalising more services for devotees which will enhance our credentials,’’ says trust treasurer Ravi Bhandari. Thus, bowing to demands from NRIs in the US, Australia and the Gulf countries, a realtime webcam darshan was introduced last week on the temple website, http://www.siddhivinayak.org. Other measures in the pipeline include computerised queuing in a spacious hall and SMS-serviced appointments with the Lord as and when the new building to accommodate 500 devotees is completed.
This is a brief list of objectives the temple trust plans to set for itself when it gets down to life under the ISO scanner. Contrary to popular impression, an ISO certification doesn’t set objective standards for a product or service but emphasises observance of certain quality criteria in its administrative and management practices.

That reminds me of a funny incident from the India vs. Pakistan final at Sharjah in 1986, the famous ‘Miandad’s 6’ one. For most of the match, as India dominated, the Indian supporters were chanting “ganpati bappa morya ……“
As Miandad and co. began to turn things around, the Pakistani supporters started chanting “ganpati bappa ….. so gaya” :-p !!
Nice statues,.
