As I read any blog posted during the initial blog days and compare it with any of my present day blogs, I can’t help wondering why I made such a paradigm shift in writing style. There’re WAY too many people whose style I admire and try to emulate. Well, the second part was needless.
Now, when I need to write (my GMAT application essay) in my natural style, I realise that I’m again in the Trisanku position. Or in more familiar terms, ‘Na ghar ka na ghat ka’. I’ve nearly lost out on the naturally-exuberant, heartfelt and conversational style I possessed formerly. Instead, I have consciously adopted a serious (read fogey!) manner which tries (too hard) to be serious and formal.
BALLS!
Now onwards, I am going to write as naturally as possible… Why didn’t I heed Nicanor Parra?

That is strange. I would think that the reverse is true as it is for me. My writing before LJ was only for scientific papers and discussions. I find that my writing has changed to a more conversational style from a formal one.

p.s.: Whichever style you choose, your posts are very readable and I enjoy them. Please keep writing about your GMAT experiences. I may have to go through that one day.

Thanks, Arun… But henceforth, the ‘natural and youthful’ style will be what I’ll try sticking to… as opposed to ‘complete and formal sentences in Active voice’… Ugh!

Were you actively trying to be formal and fogey (your word not mine!!!) or did it just happen??? If it happened naturally, maybe it has something to do with where you are in life and stuff like that…I mean don’t beat yourself up over something that might have just been the result of circumstances…catch my drift???

No, it was a conscious decision.

If I sit down and try to think about my writing style, I will stop writing altogether, so I don’t even bother doing that. Very brave of you to do that, btw! 😉
Just keep Nicanor Parra’s advice in mind (as I do too, nowadays!)and go or write full speed ahead! 😀
I will be reading, that is for sure! 😀
