If I have my facts right, Udipi Cafe had its first branch in Decatur, then another on Peachtree Industrial Boulevard, and now there’s one in Smyrna. I haven’t visited the one in Decatur much but the one on Peachtree, I have. I really like the decor (dark orange-saffron walls, wooden chairs, quietly festive, if I can call it that). The food is really nice; none of those scary-looking red gravies or overly spiced/greasy vegetable dishes. The food has an almost homely quality to it. In fact, I am guessing that the owner hails from Udupi, a region in Karnataka, India. A fact that registers rather well in the cooking although experts may disagree.
Anyway, we visited the Smyrna location for lunch yesterday.

I too like it – we've been to all locations; Smyrna being most popular. My experience has been slightly different though – enjoyed the a-la-carte; the buffet not really. The same dishes were somehow tasting mediocre, also the quality and the look seemed different on the buffet. But overall, one of my favorites in the city; glad they opened 5 minutes from our home! By the way, they're at least over a month old.
Hey Lakshmi, AP and I were there this weekend. I just got the plain idlis, they were alright. Your review rings true, hopefully they'll maintain the quality you experienced when I go back there without an India hangover. I don't think any restaurant is going to impress me enough for the next few weeks.
Good post.
Thanks, Kannan.
Not a good place compared to other locations. I have been to this place 3 times each time hoping that day it would be good. This place is near to my house so tried to see the best thing.
there are other good places in smyrna , or for best food can travel to royal indian cuisine. Its far but can go for taste and quality
Thanks for visiting, Anonymous. I have visited Royal Indian cuisine one time. The food was tasty, I thought. Buffets at Indian restaurants are my least favorite but Royal had decent items, if I remember right.
